Bahamas sailing provides breathtaking scenery as you sail The Sea of Abaco and explore our remote and exotic Out Islands, all within one national coastal boundary. Attache Magazine has rated the Sea of Abaco as one of the "Top 10 cruising areas in the world, attracting boats of all sizes and descriptions." The Islands of the Bahamas are a popular cruising area, starting a mere 50 miles from the coast of Florida and stretching almost 700 miles near to Haiti. Our waters are turquoise blue and gin clear, warm in temperature and abundant with reefs to snorkel or dive, coves to explore and remote islands with white sand beaches to roam. Not to be missed is Regatta Time in Abaco, a series of 5 races that begins with the "Round The Great Turtle Race", kicking off from Green Turtle Cay! The Regatta is a well organized, 7 day event featuring a series of competitive boat races throughout Abaco, with Regatta parties spread out over the Cays, drawing over 1,400 competitors and a lot of spectators. The party starts with a "Cheeseburger in Paradise Party" on Fiddle Cay, and the next day we host the "Round The Great Turtle Race". This is a fun race for all types of sailing vessels including ultralight racers, cruiser/racers, multihulls or fully loaded gunkholers. This race will challenge the captain and crew's sailing ability on the Sea of Abaco, and your partying ability afterward at The Green Turtle Club docks! Sailing vessels compete for awards, which include The Yacht Club Challenge "Victor Ludorum Trophy". Any Yacht Club fielding a team of at least two yachts competing in the "Round The Great Turtle Race" will automatically be eligible for the trophy. The Yacht Club with any two competing yachts whose combined scores total the lowest number will be awarded the "Victor Ludorum Yacht Club Challenge Perpetual Trophy."
